Sorry I'm writing in English but my French is pretty bad...

I hope I have the right group, but I was just wondering if the 'chanson
populaire' still exists in France? I love to listen to the songs from
before the war (Berthe Sylva, Frehel, Lucienne Boyer, Lys Gauty etc) but I
wondered if there are any modern day artists who still make songs in this
style? I am very curious to hear what the modern songs would sound like. If
you have some names I could search for I'd be very grateful.

Merci beaucoup par avance!

After WWII: Georges Brassens, Jacques Brel, Edith Piaf...
More recently : Renaud...
Very recent : Tryo...

All based on solid texts.

Thanks for your replies. I know Bruel's CD but that was not exactly I was
looking for since those are all old songs.

I will look for Renaud, Tryo and Bénabar.

Try the "20 chansons d'avant le déluge" album by Higelin & Fontaine. hope
you'll enjoy it.
